Uncle Lim SandBox – Late arrival
1Couple of week ago, i went to Genting. I’ve got a free 2 day 1 night stay at Genting First World Hotel free and two ticket for theme park free. One ticket is for indoor all park and another ticket is for both indoor and outdoor theme park. All this thanx to my housemate who got all this for free for 4 of us. All this my housemate got it free from a company who gives it free. This is the first time i stayed at the First World Hotel. And the experience is great – one part of it is because of free – and the the cool breeze of Genting is awesome.

It is a Friday to Saturday trip which we stay one night. We suppose to get there by noon but because two of my housemate was working and came back late and get them self prepared and get some dinner here and some traffic jam along jalan kuching and rainy day, we managed to get there and reach at about at 10:30 PM. We departed from our house at around 7:15 PM and all those hiccup and we reach there at 10:30 PM. That night itself we got a indoor theme park ticket for free also.

After we settle down at our hotel room and leave something behind – pee of cause – we head to the indoor theme park to see what we have there but by the time we manage to checked it and settle down everything it’s already over 11 PM which the theme park is still operational until 12:30 PM but the redemption booth for the ticket that we have is closed. So wasted that one for sure. So nothing to do, just went outside of the building and feel the breeze of cool air of few thousand feet mountain. That night is cold and not cool, and i only ware jacket only. Inside my jacket i don’t ware any shirt at all. I enjoy wearing my jacket this way because it feels good. I was taught to ware it like this many years back when I’m Scouting – yes I’m a scout boy – at a waterfall few hundred feet above sea level at hillside. To ware jacket without shirt inside really feel good especially when it is cool outside and warm inside. But at Genting and rainy condition its no feel good anymore.
So, my roommate and i like "pak tor" like that walking around that area – no! we are not the type who goes fishing – outside in for some times and then we went to casino. This is my 4th time going into casino. Before this I’ve got to know that Genting is the world largest casino, so i went in to find out coz previously I’ve went in before but don’t find it big at all. So this time i went in to find out what so big about this casino. And to my surprise, the 1st, 2nd and 3rd time that i went in i only saw 10% of the casino. This time i went all corners and all section and all area that i could possibly walk and find out it is actually the whole floor of the huge building is casino area. It is so big that even at 1:30 AM 80% of the games available there is still operational and still pack with gambler – exclude me of cause – who are so generous donating to the empire of Uncle Lim – The Genting Group Founder and ex-boss.

1Streamyx has been serving our Malaysian community for many year now. It has been labeled as the backbone of our plan for the year 2020 and government has been pushing the communication service provider to provide better service at more affordable price. But after many years the service is still at the level of less than average. This is a very disappointed situation for us and it has been like this for many years. Things haven’t change much. Complains has been sent out. Suggestions has been submitted and yet things just like the olden days. No doubt that the connection among Malaysia is superb and i can say that it is at the tip top speed and most reliable but when you want to access pages outside of Malaysia things has gone below average.

This is the 6th thread of lowyat.net Streamys Rants VI. They have to break them to 6 thread coz too many replied may choke their server.
Even accessing page at Singapore is slower than accessing page in US. Hey dude, Singapore is just next door only, why on earth our connection to Singapore is that slow. I’ve been a Streamyx customer for at least 18 months already and I’ve experienced all the setback that all of you had such as connection breakdown(a.k.a disconnect), Speed is slower than what we’ve payed for, latency, and international link breakdown. All of this I’ve experienced for many times already. There was few times that I’ve has no access to Internet because the problem with Streamyx. Ya, i know system failure it unavoidable but this things should be rare and should happened so often.
Ya, they provide after sales service. Ya right! they ask us to call them whenever we’ve experienced the problem with their service but calling them only allowing them to suck up all the money from our pockets. Their call center is always busy. anytime that I’ve called i need to wait for at least 15 minutes before I’m connected to the operator. And then the operator is sucks, they don’t even know how to deal with cases. All they know is follow a pre-written procedures and diagnose with us step by step in which i already know what the problem is before I’ve even called them. I’ve tried to skip those diagnostic procedures but they insist. They did this not just wasting my time and also the cost of calling them.. I guess they only have 2 or 3 operator that handles the call center. I guess 4, 1 Malay, 2nd English ,3rd Indian and lastly Chinese.
It’s a joke when every time i went to their website http://www.tm.net.my and the first thing you see is this and i quote
"Unleashing a new spirit for a new era, TM Net Sdn Bhd, the nation’s leading Internet and multimedia services provider, takes to heart the challenges faced when bridging the country’s digital divide. Thus, TM Net has evolved to become a progressive, dynamic, innovative and spirited company designed to help you in every aspect of your digital life."
This statement has been entertaining me for many many time. Cheers all. They don’t even capable of getting their service right locally and yet want to penetrate into India and Indonesia market. what a joke.
Recently, there is countless report that TMNET will limit or even eliminate P2P access. Well this is a bad news for us the users. According to this report TheStar Intech they say we are choking the bandwidth, in other words "We are over selling bandwidth" (We refers to TM). Why? In the article Dr Fadhullah Suhaimi Abdul Malek, general manager of TM Net’s corporate and strategy services, says 20% users are utilizing 80% of the total bandwidth because of P2P (kazaa, bittorrent, Gnutella and etc). Assume that this is true
OK, lets get started.
Let say 1000 Streamyx users and each of them subscribe to RM 88 package which is 1024 Kbps each
1000 x 1024 = 1024000 Kbps in total bandwidth
20% of users mean 200 users
200 x 1024 = 204800 Kbps for 200 users
which mean that 80% bandwidth is 204800 Kbps
so 100% bandwidth is 100 / 80 X 204800 = 256000 Kbps
In other words they are selling 256000 Kbps which is 100% bandwidth for 1000 users
wheres 1000 users at 1024 Kbps should be 1024000 Kbps This shows that they are over selling 768000 Kbps for every 1000 users
This also shows that they are selling 256 Kbps for every user at the price of RM 88 which should be 1024 Kbps
In other words, if all Streamyx users download stuffs online at the same time, we all only can get fair bandwidth thats is 256 Kbps.
This is according to the calculation. So, we are all victim of Malaysia biggest corporate deception. We are subscribing for 256 Kbps but being told that we are getting 1024 Kbps at RM 88. Even they block P2P in future, we still will have lower bandwidth than what we should get because 1000 users are only given 256000 Kbps of bandwidth and not 1024000 Kbps
