Linux is great – Fedora Core 4

Mother and father of Open Source Software(OSS) is always the Linux. Linux is Operating System(OS) that works. It is desktop OS, server OS, mobile OS, PDA OS and etc. It has been embeded into many devices more then any other OS out there. It has been widely used all the world. There is a confusion between Linux and kernel. Kernel is the actual program or core engine that Linux runs. Kernel is the actual Operating System. Which means it manage your device/computer resources such as memory, storage, hardwares and etc. It controls how the devices within your computer. It manages the resources in you computer. Linux is the name created by Linus Torvalds who is the creator of kernel itself. There is a long story about how Linus Torvalds kernel gets into the world of OSS which is don’t want to go into now. Since then the name Linux has been used for OS that uses kernel from Linus Torvalds. The following are the 10 most popular Linux OS available free for download (Linux OS is actually known as Linux Distribution or Linux Distro.)

  1. Ubuntu Linux (More Info)
  2. Mandriva (More Info) – Previouly known as Mandrake, they’ve just changed name
  3. Suse (More Info)
  4. Fedora Core (More Info) – it’s actually RedHat Linux Distro but being renamed Fedora Core after RedHat 9. Currently up to Fedora Core 4 which i’m using now.
  5. Debian (More Info)
  6. Gentoo (More Info)
  7. Slackware (More Info)
  8. Knoppix (More Info) – It is the most popular LiveCD Linux Distro. A LiveCD means you can boot into linux without installing it into you hard disk drive. All you need is just your CDROM on your computer thats all.
  9. MEPIS (More Info)
  10. Xandros Desktop (More Info)

Of all the distro above i recommend mandriva or suse if you are a new user to linux coz they do not need any customization of setting. You can work with it right after you install them. I personally like fedora because i’m so used to it already but i need alot of customization to get it work for your. If you a person who liked challenge and customizing things, i personally recommend Fedora Core 4 which is the latest version.

The following is my Fedora Core 4 Linux screenshots (Click to enlarge).

OpenOffice 2.0 goes wild

OpenOffice 2.0 goes wild on 20th October 2005 which is on developement for around 2 years already. OpenOffice 2.0 is the Office suit among all free office suite out there such as Koffice, Gnome Office and AbiWord. I’ve been using OpenOffice since version 1.0 and now things has got better and better. The interface is much more friendly. The function is much more advance. The looks of it is so eye friendly. Your eye fools cool just by looking at it. When you eye feel cool your body feel cool because of the feel of looking at it. To download you can click here
